Dear University community,
We express our sorrow for those affected by recent bombings that targeted Catholic and other Christian churches on Easter Sunday and killed more than 300 people in Sri Lanka. As a University system, we stand together and reaffirm our dedication to defending the rights of all people to freely practice their faith. We condemn these acts of violence in the strongest sense.
Our University community has a fundamental commitment to the values of diversity, equity and inclusion. Disagreement, debate and deliberation are the foundation of robust thinking and discovery. However, these freedoms—our right—necessitate mutual respect and safety.
If you or someone you know is affected by this tragedy, there are support resources available. Our universities provide counseling services for students, and faculty and staff are encouraged to reach out to the Employee Assistance Program.
Sincerely,
Mun Y. Choi, President, UM System
Alexander N. Cartwright, Chancellor, MU
C. Mauli Agrawal, Chancellor, UMKC
Christopher G. Maples, Interim Chancellor, Missouri S&T
Thomas F. George, Chancellor, UMSL
