UMKC Rubey M. Hulen Professor of Law Anthony “Tony” Luppino was recognized on Friday, Feb. 3, during the inaugural UM System Entrepreneurial Educator Summit in Columbia. More than 50 educators from around the state met to collaborate on best practices for teaching entrepreneurship, brainstorm new approaches and learn what resources are available at the system level.
During the summit, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs Bob Schwartz awarded Luppino with the award.
“By cultivating entrepreneurs who contribute to this crucial part of our mission, Professor Luppino represents everything an entrepreneurship educator should be and his many contributions illustrate the very reason we created this recognition,” Schwartz said.
Luppino was selected for successfully developing and nurturing entrepreneurs. Judges for the award appreciated his “teaching, mentoring, research and service to the discipline.”
A faculty member at the UMKC School of Law, and also a senior fellow with UMKC’s cross-campus Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation housed in the Henry W. Bloch School of Management, Luppino teaches a full load of upper-level business and tax law courses and co-created and co-teaches several interdisciplinary entrepreneurship courses, including, among others, a new course on Entrepreneurial Urban Development.
Thrilled with the honor of receiving the first Entrepreneurial Educator Award, Luppino said that he, like most in the room at the summit, loves what he is doing.
“Through the University’s strong and interdisciplinary commitment to entrepreneurship, we are well-positioned to have positive impacts on entrepreneurial success of various types, by students, faculty, and others, that benefit economic development and job creation, and provide creative solutions to societal problems and challenges in our communities, across Missouri, nationally and internationally,” he said.
