Board to discuss new student affordability initiatives, retirement plan, transformation of UM System
WHAT: At the 91Ï㽶¶ÌÊÓƵ Board of Curators November meeting, officials will present and discuss information around several topics critical to the future of UM System universities, including:
- Retirement Plan — Marsha Fischer, associate vice president of Human Resources, will provide information on a potential new retirement plan for future employees. The proposal is designed to provide a competitive retirement package for future faculty and staff hires and is part of efforts to ensure the sustainability of the existing plans for current employees and retirees. The proposed plan for future employees would not change retirement packages for current employees or retirees. Any new retirement plan offering for future employees is contingent upon Board review and approval at a later date.
- Transformation at the UM System — Several senior university officials will lead a discussion and give updates on systemwide initiatives focused on making the UM System and four universities successful in the future.
- Student Affordability — a UM System initiative that could significantly lower textbook costs for every UM student will be presented to the board.
